David Humphreys paints the view

Our artist friend David Humphreys whose work we have been collecting for the past fourteen years travelled up to Scotland late last year and painted the view to sea from our plot of land. For us this is a very special moment as David’s work captures the Scottish landscape as Jo and I have always seen it. Its a huge honour that he has agreed to do this commission, and we cannot thank him enough.

Here is one that Nigel is building now

Just got back from Skye having paid Nigel (our architect) a quick visit to see a house that he has currently got under construction which is not dissimilar to ours in size, and in building technique (Beco). The house is situated at Keppoch on the mainland (near Arisaig, which is 40 minutes from Fort William by road). The builders used are the same team being considered for our project. Great workmanship throughout.

Planning permission is granted

As of May 2012 we have been granted full planning permission for the following scheme by the Highlands Council – see plans below. Its for a one and a half storey dwelling, with three bedrooms and two mezzanine floors, plus an additional agricultural building to act as garage and store shed. The house will be designed to be passive, being built using the Beco Wallform System, have triple glazing throughout, underfloor heating, and utilizing biomass boiler and PV technologies.

A family decision is made

What was originally a plan to build a part-time holiday home has become a full blown family adventure as we have decided to burst the Surrey bubble and look to move permanently to Skye. Its been a BIG decision in the making, but Providence Chapel has gone up for sale, so if you know anyone who is looking to live in Chiddingfold who wants something different, then get intouch :-)
